And the last time at: Revelation 18:13 For all the nations have drunk the wine of her sexual immorality, which brings wrath. The kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy from her excessive luxury.
And the word ‘anger’ is mentioned even more times in the Word at 242 times. The first time anger is mentioned in the Word is at: Genesis 27:41 [ Esau's Anger ] Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. And Esau determined in his heart: "The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob."
And the last time at: Revelation 19:15 From His mouth came a sharp sword, so that with it He might strike the nations. He will shepherd them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty.
In ministering about Father’s anger and wrath, I have come across many people who choose not to believe that our heavenly Father is a God capable of anger and of administering His wrath upon mankind. I have also seen the wrathful Yahweh referred to by these same people as the “God of the Old Testament” and the loving Yahweh as the “God of the New Testament”. But clearly this cannot be truth, as there is only one God and not two that are spoken of in the Word and both anger and wrath are topics that are spoken of all throughout the Word and not only in the Old Testament.
If you are unsure, let’s take a look at the definition of these two words for further enlightenment:
Anger –noun
1. a strong feeling of displeasure and belligerence aroused by a wrong; wrath; ire.
2. Chiefly British Dialect . pain or smart, as of a sore.
3. Obsolete . grief; trouble.
Wrath –noun
1. strong, stern, or fierce anger; deeply resentful indignation; ire.
2. vengeance or punishment as the consequence of anger.
The Word in its entirety is God’s Word, not just one Testament or another. To reject one over the other does not give a balanced and reasonable view of the One who created us. Why?
Because are we not all, male and female, created in God’s image? And because of that are we not also capable of anger and wrath? Or are we only loving all the time? Are we not complex creatures with multifaceted personalities and natures?
Taking the time to reason things out is all that it takes to realize that Yahweh is just as multifaceted, if not more, as we are. And as we come to know Father, we realize this. We are not told in the Scriptures to fear Him for no reason. It wasn’t included, to be ignored.
Revelation 14:7 He spoke with a loud voice: "Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water."
As we see in the above definitions, anger is a strong feeling of displeasure and belligerence aroused by a wrong. Yahweh has indeed been wronged and in being wronged He feels, as we all would, anger because it is a part of His nature. And the result of His anger is His wrath which by definition is vengeance or punishment as the consequence of anger. It is through nature that His wrath is administered via natural disasters, plagues and pestilence. So when you witness these things occurring in nature, you also witness first hand God’s nature, which is indeed capable of both anger and wrath.
