Leading can mean that we make at times make decisions or give advice or instructions that affect a few, or many. But it is in service to those we lead and serve that we do these things, and we always look to Yahweh for Her inspiration to ensure that we are not only doing Her will first and foremost but that we are serving Her in a way that is most pleasing to Her. For when we are, we can be certain that if it is pleasing to Yahweh it is for the greater good.
We serve with those we serve also in mind, and not what’s best for us personally, but what is best for others and all involved. But most importantly, we ask ourselves, “What would our heavenly Mother want and what would our loving Savior do?”
As a leader, it must be remembered that first, we serve. And in serving, we walk in Christ’s footsteps in doing what he came to do and did in following The Way.
John 12:26 If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me. Where I am, there My servant also will be. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life —a ransom for many."
It can be a temptation, whenever one finds themselves in any sort of leadership position, to allow pride to set in and to allow the feeling of self-importance, or in thinking oneself as being special. But in remembering and following the instructions and advice given through the Word, we must also remember to never allow that temptation to root into our hearts. It is via humility that one truly comes to understand the smaller pieces that make up the bigger picture.
Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 29:23 A person’s pride will humble him, but a humble spirit will gain honor.
In serving our fellow brothers and sisters we share our love, using what talents we were blessed with and the wisdom imparted to us from above. And in sharing our love in our service to Yahweh, we also follow the greatest and most important commandment as well as the second.
Matthew 22:37-39 He said to him, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
And, lastly for now, but certainly not finally as there is truly much more to be learned on this subject, when we serve whether it be in a leadership position or not, we must serve to the best of our ability but also always remember that no one person is more important than another. We are not special as Christ Jesus is special, who paid our ransom sacrifice.
Luke 22:26 " But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and whoever leads, like the one serving. For who is greater, the one at the table or the one serving? Isn't it the one at the table? But I am among you as the One who serves."
