Galatians 5:13 For you are called to freedom, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.
The definition of to serve means, to be in the service of; work for; to be useful or of service to; help; to render active service to; to render obedience or homage to; to perform the duties of; to contribute to; promote…and many other things, but I’ve mentioned these few definitions because they best apply to what serving through love means.
For some time now I’ve pondered service to Father and its importance and its need as well. Father truly doesn’t “need” servants. She is the Almighty God, the maker of Heaven and Earth. Truly, She needs none of us because She is complete all on Her own.
So why then, would She ask that we serve Her? Well if you actually stop and think about it, it’s really quite simple.
When you love someone, whether it be a husband or wife, parent, child or friend… would you not do anything for them (within reason of course) if they asked? And on special occasions, do we not look for all sorts of ways in which to tell them or show them that we love them? And when you really love someone, with all your heart, do we not let a day go by without telling them?
Of all of life's complexities that we routinely face, love is the most complex and at the same time it’s the one thing that is so deeply seeded within us that not one of us wishes to live without it. It is the subject of letters, novels, art, photography, clothing, poetry, songs, advertising, candy, perfume, game shows, board games, cards, movies, radio and TV shows and spoken of amongst ourselves on a daily basis. We are all at the beginning of our lives in need of it and for our entire lives in search of it, finding it, losing it and falling in and out of it. Love can be as abundant as it can be elusive.
I’m sure that it’s different for everyone, but this is how my love is for Father. It is such that in each passing day, I want to serve Her, by obeying Her commands and remaining faithful to Her.
Joshua 22:5 Only carefully obey the command and instruction that Moses the LORD's servant gave you: to love the LORD your God, walk in all His ways, keep His commands, remain faithful to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and all your soul."
If you take the above scripture you’ll see that Father does not ask to be served first; She asks to be loved first. We are not commanded to love Her, but more to recognize the love that is already there for Her in our hearts and to give the love She first showed us back to Her via our actions – by keeping Her commands and remaining faithful to Her. You see the love IS there already, because She created us and we are all a part of Her. The only way it wouldn’t be there is if you were to rid yourself of it intentionally via the cultivation of a bad heart. Love can be squelched, but it can also flourish and when you truly come to understand Father, or even to just begin to know Her and Her ways, that’s when the love begins to fully bloom.
Every time I think of this, it strikes me as to how we truly, truly are created in Her image. She wishes nothing from us that we don’t wish of one another. To love and be loved and for those we love to be faithful to us.
Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you showed for His name when you served the saints—and you continue to serve them.
So when we serve Her, we serve Her out of love in the same way that we serve anyone we love… because we want to and because in return for all that She’s given us, it’s the very least we can do. And because it brings us more in union with Her and because to be pleasing to Her makes Her happy and in turn makes us happy. And also because to see Her will come into fruition and to have been asked to have played a small part in it all, is an honor and an act of love in itself considering Father Yahweh needs none of us to begin with, but instead wishes that Her children have a part in seeing that Her will is done.
I readily admit that I’ve only touched the very tip of the iceberg here, in explaining all the ways and reasons, ins and outs about serving through love, but I’ve shared my thoughts and what I know right now. The thing about Father is that She reveals Herself slowly to those who seek to know Her, and while this is my take on things today, tomorrow or the next day or even next month it could be completely different depending on what new understanding or wisdom Her Holy Spirit has so generously revealed to me. And in all honesty, this is also one of those few and far between times in which the English language seems to lack the ability in helping me to relay to all of you what I feel so deeply in my heart.
All I know is that coming to know Father in my service to Her has been the most amazing journey of my life so far and I know that there is still Eternity ahead in which to grow to learn and understand and love Her even more. But right now as things stand, I think what I love best about Father is that what you see is what you get. She doesn’t play any games. She’s fair and truthful, patient, compassionate and extremely forgiving. She never goes back on Her word and She holds nothing back. She is orderly, creative, and She tells it how it is and how it’ll be done yet at the same time patiently allows you figure things out for yourself. But and over and above all that and so many other things that have gone unmentioned for the sake of time and space, She is love. And because She is love, You know that Her love is true and She would literally rope the moon for you (and She is the only being in creation that actually could!) if it wouldn’t upset the plan set in place for the heavens and cause the earth off its axel and possibly send all of creation into chaos. Did I also mention that She’s incredibly intelligent? How couldn’t you love Her? I mean truly… why wouldn’t you want to serve someone so absolutely wonderful in so many ways?
Now take a look at the scripture at the beginning, Galatians 5:13. Because Father IS Love, it paints an interesting picture. It says to serve one another through love. In other words, Father is love. Love Father, and serve one another through Her love and through loving Her; love one another and in loving one another, you serve Father and in serving Father you are loved.
It’s deep, I know…and yet so amazing. That’s Father for you. You’ve just got to love Her.
