A week ago I was outside late in the evening and it was chilly, but in my opinion not cold enough for a nice roaring fire. As I sat on the stoop I began to smell something akin to incense mixed with something burning, but not your typical incense - and not just wood fire smell either. It was somewhat sweet but at the same time woodsy and it was oddly pleasing although I could not identify it as anything I’d ever encountered before. I stood up and walked onto the sidewalk, to see if I could see any smoke or any indication of anything burning in the immediate area that could have perhaps drifted my way, but could see nothing and the scent became fainter. So I walked back onto the porch to the area where I’d been sitting and noticed that it became stronger. and remained for a few minutes longer before fading away.
Once back inside my house I pondered this event - unsure if it was mundane or spiritual in nature but felt urged to search "incense" in the Word at which point I came across Numbers 16:46 “Then Moses told Aaron, "Take your firepan, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the community and make atonement for them, because wrath has come from the LORD; the plague has begun."
Two nights later while reading and refreshing my mind on prior nourishment given approximately a year ago, I came across the exact same Scripture again.
The night before last, I awoke to a vision of what I first thought was some sort of an insect. It “floated” above my nightstand, perhaps 3 or 4 inches in height, it’s backdrop the white shade of a lamp that could barely be seen in the darkness. It looked right at me, nibbling away at something held in it’s little insect hands and then faded away. After an initial “ew” thought, I turned over and went back to sleep. The next morning however, I realized it’s meaning and connection - the one thing that could be shown me that I would immediately understand because when I think of a locust, I think of one thing: Plagues.
Christ our Savior taught us to look deeper into the Word, which requires the use of a Dictionary at times so that we might come to a better understanding.
1. an epidemic disease that causes high mortality; pestilence.
2. an infectious, epidemic disease caused by a bacterium, Yersinia pestis, characterized by fever, chills, and prostration, transmitted to humans from rats by means of the bites of fleas.
3. any widespread affliction, calamity, or evil, esp. one regarded as a direct punishment by God: a plague of war and desolation.
4. any cause of trouble, annoyance, or vexation: Uninvited guests are a plague.
–verb (used with object)
5. to trouble, annoy, or torment in any manner: The question of his future plagues him with doubt.
6. to annoy, bother, or pester: Ants plagued the picnickers.
7. to smite with a plague, pestilence, death, etc.; scourge: those whom the gods had plagued.
8. to infect with a plague; cause an epidemic in or among: diseases that still plague the natives of Ethiopia.
to afflict with any evil: He was plagued by allergies all his life.
The word plague generally brings to mind for most people, the plagues of Egypt, the bubonic plague, the great plague, the London plague or any other major plague event that has come upon mankind over the centuries. But a deeper look into the word brings to light that it can mean many things, including invasion, persecution, affliction, trouble, exasperation and calamity.
Mankind is already plagued by many things like war, death, disease, and even evil. These are the overlooked plagues; the plagues that no one sees because they are accepted as a part of life today - but there will be more that also will come; only to be added to all the plagues already upon mankind. They are not brought on by Satan as he in fact fights against the calamities in an attempt to stop them. They come directly from Yahweh Himself.
Luke 21:11 There will be violent earthquakes, and famines and plagues in various places, and there will be terrifying sights and great signs from heaven.
The plagues that are coming will serve a specific purpose, just as everything that is a part of Yahweh’s plan does. And because Yahweh’s will cannot be thwarted, a path is cleared to make way for it's unfolding. So too will a path be cleared for His anger.
Psalm 78:50 He cleared a path for His anger. He did not spare them from death, but delivered their lives to the plague.
Plagues will come which will be released by His holy angels just as they were in Moses and Aaron’s time upon Egypt. They are an outward sign of Father’s anger and also the judgment that is upon mankind.
Revelation 2:23 I will kill her children with the plague. Then all the churches will know that I am the One who examines minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your works.Revelation 9:18 A third of the human race was killed by these three plagues—by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came from their mouths.
Revelation 9:20 The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands to stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which are not able to see, hear, or walk.
